zoom 51 The dark eye and very weak wingbars led us to believe that this is first-spring bird.
zoom 52 Many of the folks who saw this bird commented on its dark eye. This bird was more brownish in tone on the upperparts than a typical adult. The combination of eye color and plumage coloration suggest that this is a first-spring bird.
zoom 53 In the early morning sun, the low light angle made the heads of the Lazuli Buntings absolutely glow.
zoom 54 Lazuli Buntings were conspicuous along Sundial Rd. on 11 May 2012. This male was one of at least four that were in the area.
