Started out my day at the marsh across the highway from Neskowin where some MALLARDS were lined up on a log - got a late start as usual, but hit almost all of the spots I wanted to visit.

I've been to Neskowin a couple of times but there's not really anyplace to park back in by the refuge. Someone advised me to park out in the little wayside and walk -- great idea, and it was beautiful weather for a walk today! CANADA GEESE were relaxing under a gorgeous dead tree. There were hundreds of waterfowl - wish I'd had some of you experts with me to help sort through them all!

Next stop was the Nestucca River NWR, an amazing place to find a GREATER ROADRUNNER hanging out (not sure who introduced him to the area :o) A gorgeous RED-TAILED HAWK was soaring right above the lower parking lot. Down below, hundreds of ducks and geese (again, would have loved to have had you there!

Also at Nestucca, I think this is a PEREGRINE FALCON?

Driving along Netarts Highway, there were plenty of birds in the water, including Scoters, Grebes, Cormorants plus a few GREAT BLUE HERONS.

At Tillamook River, stopped at a little fishing dock where I saw some COMMON MERGANSERS along with an EARED and a HORNED GREBE.

In Tillamook, stopped and walked around the Hoquarton Interpretive Trail on Hoquarton Slough - nice little bunch of birds including this YELLOW RUMPED WARBLER.

Looking for Goodspeed Rd (in Tillamook), I went too far and found myself in Bay City -- so I stopped to check out the gulls (see Mystery Birds question and photos in my Mystery Birds folder)

Last stop was my original destination, Tillamook wetlands on Goodspeed Road (aka Rain River). I was running late, and didn't have enough time or daylight for the whole trek, but decided to venture in a little ways. Very glad I did, as I netted two BLACK PHOEBEs along with various other finds.

And of course another horrendous photo of yet another mystery raptor! I ended my big day with 5.19 miles on my pedometer, 130 on my odometer, and 54 (plus) species. My original count was off , but I'm still feeling ok about my day :o)

By the way, I didn't put the Roadrunner on the sign at Nestucca - I don't know who the contributor was, but it made me laugh so I had to share :o)
