Bjorn Hinrichs and I spent the morning birding Lakewood Bay and the surrounding neighborhoods immediately to the north for the Portland Christmas Bird Count. The morning started quite foggy, not burning off until about 10AM. We found the usual assortment of waterfowl on the lake, including the Horned Grebe that has been around for weeks. Towards the end of our walk, Bjorn's son Sawyer joined us. We enjoyed great close-up looks at American Robins and Cedar Waxwings as they fed on berries. Other highlights included two Red-breasted Sapsuckers and four Townsend's Warblers.

This American Robin was one of many that we saw feeding on various fruiting vegetation in this older established section of Lake Oswego.

We pished up several large mixed flocks, that included mostly Black-capped Chickadees, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Song Sparrows and Dark-eyed Juncos. This Red-breasted Nuthatch was one of a group of three in one flock.

Unfortunately, persistent fog didn't lift until we were almost done, so most of the photos that I took were of the ilk of this Red-breasted Sapsucker shot.
