
Dark, slate-gray pigeon. Adult male has dark gray head with bright white crown and white iris. Red bill with white tip. Dark gray neck with maroon iridescence above green iridescence on hind neck. Dark gray wings, body and tail. Red feet. Adult female is paler than male. Juvenile much drabber than adult. Browner overall with brownish edging on many feathers. Reduced dirty white crown, brownish iris and no iridescence.

Loud, repeated: hoooo pa-coooo.
Habitat:
Mangrove forests and forests with fruit-bearing trees.
Behavior:
Often hidden in treetops. Usually forages in trees, though occasionally on the ground. Colony nesters.
Feeding:
Diet consists primarily of fruit, sometimes seeds and insects.
