
This species is easily recognized by its unmarked white underparts and bright red bill with black tip. Sexes are similar. Adults show violet crown and auriculars. The rest of the upperparts, including the tail, are a uniform bronze color. Juveniles have much less violet on the crown, duller white underparts, and more extensive black on the bill.
