Medium-sized olive-green vireo with wingbars, best identified by diagnostic markings around the dark eye. Blackish lores are broadest right in front of the eye and taper toward the base of the bill. There is a conspicuous gap (right above the eye) between the broad, bright yellow supraloral stripe and a thick white partial eye arc that wraps behind the eye. A thinner white eye arc below the eye may connect with upper arc creating an incomplete eye ring. Upperparts mostly dull olive-green. Wings are dark dusky greenish to near black with two crisp white wingbars, indistinct yellowish or greenish edges to secondaries, and whitish margins on the outer web of tertials. Brownish-olive tail. Underparts, which vary from pale yellow on brightest birds to dingy yellowish-gray on some adults, are usually brightest on the breast; undertail may appear whitish. Medium-large stubby grayish bill with a tiny hook at the tip. Gray legs.
