Small stint with crouched look due to slightly bent legs. Rounded head. Thin, medium-short bill with slight droop and thin tip. Long tail extending beyond wing tips. Pure white outer retrices are distinctive in flight. Pale greenish yellow legs. Alternate Adult: Brownish-gray head. Dark eye with thin but distinct white eye ring that stands out due to plain face. Dark grayish bill. Very pale whitish loral spot and chin. Solid slightly streaky brownish-gray breast. White underparts. Brownish-gray back and upperparts. Several scattered feathers on scapulars that have dark centers with broad pale rufous fringes. Basic Adult: Grayer than breeding. All pale grayish-brown plumage on head, breast and upperparts. Inconspicuous pale (whitish) fringes of feathers on wings with a few dark shaft streaks. Juvenile: Similar to Basic Adult, but has thin crescent-shaped subterminal markings on scapulars and wing coverts and broader buffy edges and dark shaft streaks on these feathers.
