
This species gets its name from its unique dark nape with little white spots. The crown and face are pale gray. The remainder of the upperparts are dark brown with pale feather edges. The primaries are blackish, and the long squared tail is blackish with white tips on the outer feathers. The underparts are pinkish-brown, fading to gray on the undertail coverts. Juveniles lack the dark patch on the nape.
