
A small, pale, sprightly wren of eastern marshes and grasslands. Adult has clean pale buffy underparts, finely barred wings and tail, orange rump, streaked back, whitish throat, pale supercilium, dark eyeline and crown, and grayish, slightly decurved bill. It is shorter-tailed and shorter-billed than similar Marsh Wren; also has fine streaking on its crown.

Voice:
Sharp stacatto notes followed by trilled chatter. Call is a husky "chep."
Habitat:
Marshes, grasslands, wet meadows, sedge beds.
Behavior:
Rather secretive, skulking among dense vegetation. Males sing from exposed perches. Globe-shaped nest is woven from sedges, grasses, and other marsh vegetation, anchored to vertical stems.
Feeding:
Gleans thick vegetation for insects and other small prey.
