
Rock Pigeon-sized slate-gray pigeon. Orange iris with yellow-orange orbital ring. Small, dark red bill with pale tip. Maroon-violet head, neck, and upper breast. Scaly-patterned feathers on sides of neck and nape. Scapulars of juveniles have reddish-brown fringes. Dark maroon legs. Similar to the Red-billed Pigeon, which lacks scaly nape and has very different range. White-crowned Pigeon typically has white on crown and is darker overall.
