
A small, compact, short-tailed tropical dove, accidental to Southern Florida and Texas. Adult male is ruddy brown overall with conspicuous light streak under the eye, dark reddish-brown upperparts, paler orangish-brown underparts, yellow eye, red legs, and thin, reddish-black bill. Female lacks streak under eye and has mottled white throat and white undertail coverts.

Habitat:
Variety of wooded and scrubby habitats, coffee plantations, wet forests, and arid environments.
Behavior:
Typically walks along ground. Nest is a thin platform of sticks placed in a shrub.
Feeding:
Forages on ground, pecking at a variety of seeds and insects.
