Familiar resident of urban areas and cliffs across North America. Typical adult is gray overall with iridescent green and purple plumage on neck, two black bars on wings, dark band on tail tip, red eye, and white spot at base of bill. Various uncommon color morphs range from sandy-brown to dark or even all-white.

Urban areas, bridges, barns, grain farms, cliffs.

Behavior:

Very common in large cities; the classic pigeon. Typically seen in flocks. Excrement from roosting birds is a nuisance in some areas. Nest is a messy platform placed on sheltered flat surface. In the west, often forms large cliff-face nesting colonies

Feeding:

Forages on ground; pecks at a variety of seeds, other plant material, and human scraps.
