
A small booby with diagnostic bright red feet. Relatively short neck and long white tail. Pink face with dark eye. Relatively small gray bill. Usually can be classified as dark or white birds, but some do not fit either category. White adult has white head with yellowish wash, white back and underparts, and black on outer half and trailing edge of wings. Dark adult has a tawny tannish-brown head, neck and underparts, with darker brown wings. Juveniles are brownish overall, paler below, with dull reddish feet and dusky underparts.

Habitat:
Pelagic; breeds on tropical islands in shrubs or small trees.
Behavior:
Plunges into water to capture food; catches flying fish mid-air. Found individually or in mixed flocks. Has strong wing beats; also glides.
Feeding:
Diet consists of squid and fish.
