
Medium-sized, heavily-streaked pipit. Faintly streaked brownish auriculars. Thin, indistinct, short white supercilium. Upperparts generally dark brown, back shows conspicuous alternating white and blackish streaks. White sub-moustachial stripe and very thin dark malar stripe broadening to thick base. Underparts are mostly white with long, heavy black streaks on breast and flanks. Often has yellowish wash on the unstreaked throat, breast and flanks. Streaky dark wings with brownish edging to feathers and two bold white wingbars. Streaky brownish rump. Dark tail with white tail edges.

Habitat:
Open areas with dense grass.
Behavior:
Often secretive and difficult to find. Usually walks around in dense grasses and is difficult to flush. Seldom calls even when flushed.
Feeding:
Diet consists of insects.
