
Asian species; rare visitor to Northwestern North America. Small brownish ground-dwelling songbird, similar to other pipits, but note faintly streaked greenish-olive back, pale supercilium with orange mark in front of eye, dark rear auriculars, whitish throat, buffy breast with thick dark streaks, white belly, and pink legs. Bill has pink base.

Habitat:
Fields, open woodlands, shrubland.
Behavior:
In regular range, typically encountered alone or in pairs. Ground-dwelling, but flies to higher perches when alarmed. Nest is a cup concealed on ground beneath rocks or vegetation.
Feeding:
Forages on ground for a variety of insects and occasional seeds.
