
Long-tailed and long-winged owl with dark brown upperparts and heavily-streaked underparts. Uniform brown head, neck, back and wings. Underparts are white with short, coarse, reddish-brown streaks. Brown tail with broad dark bars. Brown face lacks disk pattern. Yellow eyes with white patch between them. Yellowish feet.

Habitat:
Inhabits lowland tropical rainforests, coniferous or deciduous woodlands, parks, and large thickets of trees and shrubs.
Behavior:
Roosts in dense foliage during the day. At night, hunts for insects which it captures midair. Occasionally forages during days with heavy overcast. Usually nests in tree cavities.
Feeding:
Diet consists of insects and occasionally small mammals, bats, birds, frogs, and lizards.
