
Distinctive, large tityra. Adult male: Extremely pale gray head and back with boldly contrasting black face. A large unfeathered patch of reddish-pink facial skin extends from the base of the bill, through the lores, and surrounds the dark red eye. Heavy reddish-pink bill with dark tip. Pale grayish, near white underparts. Pale grayish back and rump. Pale grayish wings with contrasting black primaries and lower edge to wing. Black tail with pale gray base and tip. Grayish legs. Adult female: Similar to male, but with brownish-gray head, back and wings.

Habitat:
Forests, forest edges or open and semi-open areas with scattered trees or shrubs.
Behavior:
Forages by walking and hopping along a branch or quickly flying down, sometimes hovering, to grab or pluck food. Usually single or in pairs, though may form small loose flocks.
Feeding:
Diet consists of insects, fruit and small reptiles.
