
Small swallow with broad wings and a slightly forked tail. Adults iridescent green on crown and back. Thin white line above lores. Dark face, wings and tail. White underparts, underwing coverts, and rump. Juveniles have brown upperparts instead of green. Similar to Tree Swallow but smaller, more green (rather than blue) above, with a white supraloral line and white rump. Similar Violet-green Swallow has a dark stripe through the middle of its white rump and the eyes are surrounded by white feathers. Mangrove has a complete white rump band and its eyes are surrounded by dark feathering.

Found along coastal bays, estuaries, lakes, rivers, or pastures.
Behavior:
Flies low over water with lazy wingbeats. Perches on exposed sticks near water. Usually in pairs or small flocks.
