Magnificent Hummingbird taken by Dan Mitchell on 4/1/13 at Ash Creek Canyon, Hereford, Arizona
Where I come from, we don't have any BIG hummingbirds, thus seeing this and a few other Magnificent Hummingbirds was one of the trip highlights. Multiple 5+ inch hummingbird species are possible in Arizona, but this is the only one of those species that we saw. This Magnificent was at the Ash Canyon B&B (south of Sierra Vista) on 23 April 2015.
At roughly 5.25 inches in length, Magnificent Hummingbird is the largest of the large hummingbirds that occur in Arizona. This bird was photographed at the Ash Canyon B&B, Cochise County, Arizona on 23 April 2015.
It took a while, but I finally managed to get a photo of this male Magnificent Hummingbird when it was away from the feeders. It would typically come into the feeder then disappear into the dense mesquite behind the property at the Ash Canyon B&B.
