
Very similar to Greater White-fronted Goose, this species is brown overall with black barring on the belly. The white feathering at the base of the bill extends up onto the forehead. The short stubby bill is pinkish, while the legs and feet are orange. At close range, a yellow orbital ring is visible. The neck is proportionally shorter than that of Greater White-fronted, but the wings are proportionally longer, extending beyond the tail at rest.

Habitat:
Tundra, freshwater and saltwater marshes, coastal meadows, agricultural fields.
Behavior:
Often found with flocks of Greater White-fronted Geese, usually near the front edge of grazing flocks.
Feeding:
Eats terrestrial and aquatic plants, waste grain.
