5 Having seen a number of winter Hooded Orioles over the years, I was struck by this bird. It seemed to be paler below and have less orange in the plumage than other Dec-Feb "adult" males that I've seen in Oregon, Texas, and Baja California Sur. This bird is wintering in North Bend, Coos County, Oregon, here on 8 February 2015.
6 Here's another shot of the adult male Hooded Oriole wintering at North Bend, Oregon. It's paler appearance gave me cause to wonder if it might be a second-year male.
