
A small Central and South American flycatcher that resembles North American Empidonax, but generally lacks wingbars and has a fairly obvious whitish supercilium. Adult: Head, throat, and breast are medium gray; palest on throat and breast. Short white supercillium. Partially concealed yellowish crown patch; crest occasionally raised to fully conceal crown patch. Lower breast, belly and undertail are washed out yellow. Upperparts are mostly dull olive-green, more grayish on the unmarked wing coverts. May occasionally show very faint wingbars, secondaries edged with green. Thin dark bill has a pinkish base. Short primary projection; tail is long, square, olive-green. Juvenile: Similar to adult, but browner above with a brownish head.

Habitat:
Semi-arid, open woodlands and clearings with young trees.
Behavior:
Perches more upright than other flycatchers. Often gleans insects while perched.
Feeding:
Diet consists of insects and berries.
