Range: Most U.S. records from Texas, but vagrants have wandered north to Southern Canada.

Identification: (Colibri thalassinus)

This extremely large hummingbird is dark green overall with a slightly decurved bill. Sexes similar. Violet patches on auriculars, chin, and breast. Undertail coverts washed with buff. The tail is dark blue-green with a dusky subterminal band. Juveniles are paler, with less violet.

Length: 10 (cm) Wingspan: 13 (cm)

Habitat:

In Mexico, inhabits pine-oak woodlands. Vagrants to U.S. most likely to be found at feeders.
