Field Notes

Since the first North American record cited above, the Connecticut bird in 2009, another in Newfoundland, and one in Nova Scotia in 2011 have been documented and are forming the beginnings of a pattern of vagrancy. The Connecticut bird is currently being assessed by the Avian Records Committee of Connecticut and will likely be accepted as the first lower 48 record. This species is expanding its range in Greenland and should be on our radar as a bona fide vagrant, following in the steps of Barnacle Goose, and Pink-footed Goose.
Citation: Personal Experience. I observe this regularly, highly confident.
