Range: Resident in coastal states from Massachusetts to Florida, west to eastern Texas, and most of Arkansas. Summers to southeastern Kansas and southern Illinois along the Mississippi River; also local in southwestern New York and Vermont. Withdraws from inland and northern parts of range during winter.
Identification: (Corvus ossifragus)
Entirely black; slightly glossy, mostly on back. Immatures with brownish cast to back. Very similar to American Crow, but slightly smaller head, longer tail, pointier wings, and smaller overall size.
Length: 38 (cm) Wingspan: 91 (cm)
Voice:
Short, nasal haw or ah-ah.
Habitat:
Coastal beaches, marshes and rivers; usually near water. May occupy farmland, towns, or dumps.
Behavior:
Walks on ground and probes to obtain food. Forms flocks, particularly during winter.
Feeding:
Diet primarily consists of carrion, bird eggs and nestlings, grain, and fruit.
