
Large warbler with dark gray to black upperparts, orange-yellow underparts, and a long, white-tipped tail. Adult: Crown and face black, yelllow crown patch, back and wings dark charcoal-gray, bright orange-yellow to yellow underparts. Thick white crescent above the eye and white supraloral spot form what appears to be a broken supercilium, slightly narrower white arc below eye. Pinkish legs and dark bill. Juvenile similar to adult but with grayer face.

Habitat:
Found in desert canyons, rocky stream beds, or damp forests.
Behavior:
Frequently fans out tail and swings it from side to side or up and down. Forages by walking on rocks or hawking insects. Occasionally follows ants across the forest floor.
Feeding:
Feeds on insects, spiders, berries, and seeds.
