This is the bluebird species of eastern North America. Range overlaps with Mountain Bluebird in southern Prairie Provinces of Canada, where these two occasionally hybridize. Eastern Bluebird has the shortest primary projection of all the bluebirds. The bill is dark and fairly heavy, with a yellow gape. Male has dark blue upperparts. Throat, sides of neck, breast, sides, and flanks are deep orange. Belly and undertail coverts are white. Females have a similar pattern, but are lighter in color overall and have a white eye ring. Juveniles have darkly mottled underparts, white-spotted backs, and cinnamon edges on the tertials.

Behavior:

Cavity nester, that will readily adopt man-made bird houses placed in appropriate habitat.
