
Casual in Southeast Arizona. Trogon-like, with distinct small-headed, hunched shape. Adult male has green wings, back, head, and breast, with red underparts. Wide tail is blue-green above, black below with broad white spots. Adult female has gray head and breast. Juvenile is like female with paler gray plumage.

Habitat:
Dry oak and pine woodlands.
Behavior:
Nests in cavities, typically old woodpecker holes. Like other trogons, sits quietly on elevated perch, foraging with sudden, quick movements.
Feeding:
Eats a variety of insects, small vertebrates, and fruit. Often hovers while foraging.
