
Adult male has pale yellow underparts, uniform greenish back and wings, short greenish tail, pale gray hood, bold white eye ring, and short, dark bill. Female and immature have lighter gray or light brown hoods. MacGillivray's Warbler has white eye arcs in all plumages, and Mourning Warbler lacks eye ring.

Voice:
Song is a loud, clear, repetitive, often four-part phrase. Call is a soft chip note, and flight call is buzzy.
Habitat:
Bogs, open woodlands, scrub, dense vegetation, thick undergrowth.
Behavior:
Secretive; occupies dense vegetation, moves slowly, and often difficult to observe. Walks along ground, bobbing head; does not hop. Skulks in thickets. Nest is a woven cup, usually on the ground.
Feeding:
Forages on ground or low vegetation, walking on surfaces to search for insects and invertebrates.
