
Large dark long-winged Eurasian swift with a long deeply-forked tail and contrasting pale throat. Adult: Very dark body and wings; black with a brownish cast. Scaly appearance owing to slightly browner fringes of feathers. Contrasting whitish throat. Flight feathers slightly paler than wing linings and body. Juvenile: Darker than adult, almost pure black. Scalier than adult with white fringes to feathers on forehead.

Habitat:
A variety of habitats with trees, cliffs or man-made structures for roosting and nesting.
Behavior:
Very good fliers. May spend all day in flight. Forage and even mate in flight. Roost and nest in trees, man-made structures and cliffs.
Feeding:
Diet consists solely of insects and spiders.
