
Very small plover with thin black bill and relatively long flesh-colored legs. Adult male: White forehead, throat and patch behind eye. Black lores. Black fore crown usually with rusty hind edge. Dark eye with thin white eye ring. Rusty auriculars with rusty tinge around edges of thin, dark, complete breast band. Brownish nape and hind neck. Brownish back and wings. White underparts. In flight shows white wing stripe and white edges of outer tail. Adult female: Usually slightly less rusty than male. Juvenile: Incomplete breast band. Pale rusty edges to feathers on upper parts.

Habitat:
Coastal or inland on sandy beaches, mudflats and savannas.
Behavior:
Usually single. Very wary.
Feeding:
