
Adult male of this declining species is deep sky-blue above, white below, with white throat, thin blue breastband, and blue streaks on white underparts. Female is blue-green above, with diffuse streaks on buffy-yellow underparts, and has dingy white throat and supercilium. Immatures are yellowish underneath, blue-green above, with faintly streaked breast, white undertail coverts, and bright yellow supercilium. All plumages have two white wing bars. In flight, note white spots near tip of tail.

Voice:
Thin, buzzy, high phrases. Call is a single chip note.
Habitat:
Mature deciduous forests, riparian areas, older, moist second-growth. Winters in broad-leaved tropical forests.
Behavior:
Usually high in canopy. Finely constructed cup nest is placed on a horizontal branch far above ground.
Feeding:
Gleans foliage of high canopy for insects and other small prey.
