Boobies are large and distinctive in shape with long slightly crooked, pointed wings, fairly long necks that taper into a slender head and long pointed bill, with a lot of neck and head extension in front of the wing. The rump and tail extend well behind the wings tapering to a fairly narrow wedge-shaped tail that looks pointed in flight. This species is entirely white below with sooty brown wings and a slightly paler back and bright blue feet. Head mostly whitish with fine dark streaks creating a pale gray look overall. Skin surrounding the base of the bill is dark gray. Long, gray bill. At close range, the back is sooty brown with white barring that is more closely spaced toward the base of the neck. Flight feathers are solidly dark brown above. Axillaries and underwing coverts are white, underside of the primaries and secondaries are brown, darkest toward the tip. Small white rump patch, brown upper tail coverts and white "U" across the base of the light brown tail.
