It should be noted that the timing of prebasic molt in many Asian duck populations is later than their N. American counterparts. Male Baikal Teal may not show evidence of prebasic molt, which results in the transition from a cryptic or "eclipse" plumage to the more definitive adult male plumage, until late November or later.
