
Relatively small hummingbird with green upperparts, buffy underparts, and a partial white collar. Forked, rufous tail with black or green edges distinctive. Bill slightly curved. Male is iridescent green above with a magenta-pink gorget and rufous underparts with a greenish wash on flanks. Female green above with buffy underparts.

Habitat:
Prefers gardens, scrubby areas with low vegetation, or mixed woodlands or forest edges.
Behavior:
Defends territory and food sources vigorously. Males extend gorget and tail when performing shuttle display.
