
This species is recognized by its long forked tail and bright white underparts. Male: Dark metallic green crown and back, with the dark of the crown extending below the eyes. The upperside of the wings and tail are dark metallic blue. The underparts, including the cheek and the underwing coverts, are bright white. The underside of the tail shows variable amounts of white streaking. Female: Slightly duller than the male, with a brown wash on the cheeks and breast. Juvenile: Brownish above, with some green on the back and wing coverts. The breast is washed with brown. The tail is shorter than that of adults.
