1 Spring, after hatch-year (March), California. Uniform look of coverts and flight feathers suggest that is an adult.
2 Summer, after hatch-year (June), Alaska. The somewhat worn and faded appearance of the innermost greater coverts may indicate that this is a first-summer bird. Note that Alaskan breeders aren't buffy salmon (see Colorado birds) below in alternate plumage.

15 Winter, age uncertain (December), Washington. Streaking on crown, back and flanks are suggestive of a hatch-year bird.
16 Summer, juvenile (July), Colorado.
