The U.S. range of this oriole, the largest of North American, is restricted to southern. Adults are mostly bright orange with black wings, back, tail, throat, and lores; the median wing coverts are orange and and the greater coverts are tipped with white creating a single white wingbar. Sexes are similar. Juvenile and first-year birds are a duller orange color and may not have a black throat.

Scrub woodlands, mesquite, riparian areas.

Behavior:

The Altamira Oriole weaves the longest nest of any North American bird, in an extended sock shape.

Eats insects and fruit, foraging in all types of foliage.
