
This large pale sparrow-like bird is recognized by its rather uniform buffy, clay-brown plumage and poorly-defined black face mask, which contrasts with the pale bill. Underparts are slightly paler than the upperparts and can show a bit of pinkish cast. The tail is darker than the body and the undertail coverts are a warmer pale cinnamon-brown.

Habitat:
Areas of thick brush, usually near water.
Behavior:
Often remains hidden in heavy cover.

Like other towhees, forages for seeds and insects, usually on the ground.
